I actually flew from Calgary just to eat at this restaurant - and it was absolutely worth it!
I lived in Georgia back in 2022, and ever since then, I've been searching for authentic Georgian food wherever I travel. When I found a cheap flight to Winnipeg for Thanksgiving, the very first thing I checked was whether there was a Georgian restaurant in town. The moment I discovered Saperavi, I booked my flight!
The experience did not disappoint. I ordered Badrijani, Khachapuri Adjaruli, Khinkali, and Napoleon cake - and somehow found room for all of it. Everything was so fresh and delicious that I simply couldn't stop eating. The flavors were truly authentic, just like what I had back in Tbilisi.
I even had the pleasure of meeting Chef Larysa, a wonderful woman whose cooking instantly cured my nostalgia for Georgian food. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of Georgian charm.
Mind you, I'm Italian born and raised - it's not easy to satisfy my taste buds, but Saperavi absolutely did!
I was only sorry that the restaurant was closed on Thanksgiving Day - otherwise, I would have gone back for another meal!
I sincerely wish we had something like Saperavi in Calgary. Highly recommend to anyone craving authentic Georgian cuisine!
